How do you ensure that you have a great corporate or business team? How do you foster more connection, communication, and development of the team as a department leader or business owner? Here are a few suggestions:
- Plan team retreats at least a couple of times a year. Two to four times a year take time to focus on team vision and team objectives or goals. Update timelines or milestones and craft next steps beyond the retreat.
- Plan team strategy sessions. Validate your team strategy and have the team provide input regarding roles and responsibilities with respect to the strategy and key action steps.
- Implement annual and mid-year planning sessions. Update the team on performance and key business indicators (Sales/Revenue/Budget). Get input from the team on completing annual goals as well as identifying new opportunities.
- Develop team projects based on the skills of the team. Assign team members to projects based on their skill set, development, and ability to contribute successfully to the project goals. You could have multiple mini teams that could contribute differently to one larger group goal.
The idea is to consistently look for ways to bring your team together periodically to insure they understand what success is for the team, as well as how it will be measured. Successful teams are motivated, focused, and positive. Good teams expect to win, and they build their strategy and plan based on that premise.\
